About Uncle Alex:

ELOW IS A PHOTO from a 1951 issue of Life magazine of my uncle Alex Graham on his hundredth birthday, standing at his desk in the Oklahoma bank where he was president. Years of hard work and an uncanny sense about lending money made Uncle Alex a millionaire... back when a million dollars was really a lot of money.

Working at his Stand-Up Desk, William Alexander Graham in 1951.Uncle Alex had a philosophy about people that he applied to his business dealings: treat everyone like a neighbor; give them what they need to succeed, and they’ll help you succeed, too. He was known to extend bank loans to people just because he believed them to be a good moral risk, and because he sensed that they had the character and grit to craft their dreams into reality. As far as I know, his instincts about people never failed him.

Uncle Alex had a philosophy about work too... one that molded his personal work habits, right down to the desk he used. He often said “ a man on his feet is worth two in his seat.” It was his belief that standing to work made him think quicker, made him more intuitive, gave him more initiative. He also said he just felt better standing up. He had an old printer's desk at which he stood every day to make the decisions which affected not only the future of his business, but the future of his community and the people who were, indeed, his friends and neighbors.

I've adopted Uncle Alex's philosophy in my own business, and, as a tribute to him, I named the Company after him. The Graham / Peterson Desk Co., and, you guessed it, we even make the Uncle Alex Stand-Up Desk. It’s not really like Uncle Alex’s desk though. It’s better. It’s a lighter, more streamlined version for today’s business. All of our desks are not only functional, but beautiful pieces of furniture which you will be proud to own and to use. We want you to be proud of your Uncle Alex, just like we are.

Thank you for your interest in our products.

Sincerely,
- Graham Peterson
